Diving Conditions in Komodo:
Water Temperature:
Water temperatures in Komodo vary depending on the dive sites and conditions, ranging from a warm 26°C to 29°C (79°F to 84°F) to cooler areas with temperatures around 21°C to 25°C (70°F to 77°F). These nutrient-rich cooler waters help support some of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the world.
Recommended Diving Suit:
Given the temperature variations, divers are advised to tailor their wetsuit choice to the location. In the northern dive sites, a 3mm or 5mm wetsuit is sufficient to keep you comfortable during multiple dives. However, for the cooler southern sites, especially if you plan extended dives, a 5mm full wetsuit with a hooded vest or layered insulation ensures warmth and comfort, particularly during the colder months.
Strong Currents:
Komodo is renowned for its strong and unpredictable currents, making it a paradise for experienced divers seeking a challenge. Iconic sites such as Batu Bolong and Castle Rock are known for their swirling nutrient-rich waters that attract large schools of pelagic species, including reef sharks, barracudas, and trevallies. These conditions create thrilling drift dives, but they require a higher level of skill and preparation. Always follow your dive guide's instructions, and bring a reef hook to anchor yourself securely in stronger currents.

Prepare to be captivated by some of the world's most iconic dive sites, where nature puts on an unforgettable show beneath the waves. At Manta Alley, you'll witness the graceful choreography of manta rays gliding effortlessly in their natural habitat, often accompanied by schools of colorful fish that add to the spectacle. Meanwhile, Castle Rock offers a vibrant explosion of life with its bright, flourishing corals, creating a haven for an impressive variety of marine species, including white-tip reef sharks, trevallies, and fusiliers.
For those drawn to unique geological formations and thriving ecosystems, Batu Bolong stands out as a pinnacle of biodiversity. This steep underwater pinnacle is adorned with pristine coral gardens and home to an array of species, from napoleon wrasse and moray eels to anthias and giant trevallies. If you're looking for a thrill, head to The Cauldron, where powerful currents transform your dive into an exhilarating drift, sweeping you through stunning underwater channels and walls.
The beauty doesn't stop there — Tatawa Besar and Tatawa Kecil are equally mesmerizing, with their kaleidoscopic displays of soft and hard corals, teeming with vibrant reef fish and pelagic visitors like turtles and reef sharks. These dive sites are renowned for their crystal-clear waters, making every dive a breathtaking experience as you explore some of the richest marine ecosystems on the planet. Whether you're an experienced diver or simply seeking adventure, these sites promise a journey into an underwater paradise you'll never forget.
